BUIKEMA, Wiert - Beloved husband, father and grandfather Wiert Buikema passed away at the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary, Alberta on September 20, 2016 at the age of 79 years. Born in Kloosterburen, Netherlands on September 22, 1936, Wiert eventually settled in Calgary, Alberta. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; daughters, Kathy (Brian) Potter, and Lynn; son, Richard; granddaughters, Melissa and Dareth (Hugh) Troop; great grandson, David; and sisters, Corrie Gauson, Dini (Drew) DeVries and Greta (Dan) Wurz. Wiert was predeceased by his father, Rikus, and mother, Jantina; brother, Folkert and brother in law, Jim Gauson. Cremation has taken place through Pierson’s Funeral Services. At Wiert’s request, no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Wiert’s name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. (Pierson's Funeral Service)
WEDDING - On August 16th, the home of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Rafuse of Young’s Cove was the scene of a quiet, but pretty wedding , when their youngest daughter, Margaret Emily, was united in marriage to Wiert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rikus Builkema of Calgary, Alberta, Chaplain WB Taylor of HMCS Cornwallis officiating.
