RHODENIZER, Randolph Amos - MAHONE BAY -- 86, passed away December 12, 1989, at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born on Big Tancook Island, March 22, 1903, he was the son of the late William and Bessie Rhodenizer.
He is survived by wife Lena (formerly Lena Moser from Moser's River); four sons, Robert and Gordon, Mahone Bay; Clifford, Bridgwater; Donald, Newcombville; two daughters, Pauline (Mrs. Richard Dykeman), Truro; and Susan, at home; three brothers, John, William and Perlie; one sister, Blanche; 11 grandchildren; four great grandchildren. He was predeceased by one brother, Clarey; three sisters, Lily, Ida and Beulah.
During his lifetime, Randolph held varied occupations such as sailor, farmer, railroad worker, shipwright in the Navy for five years, and until retirement a shipwright in the H.M.C. Dockyard. Until his death, he was kept busy with many hobby crafts. He was also a member of Branch #49, Royal Canadian Legion, Mahone Bay.
The body rested at Mahone Funeral Home. A memorial service was held at Mahone Funeral Home on December 14, 1989, by Branch #49, Royal Canadian Legion. The funeral service was held at Calvary Temple in Mahone Bay on December 15, 1989, with Rev. Leslie Ingraham officiating. Interment was at Mahone Bay Cemetery. Pallbearers were Philip Smeltzer, Enos Nauss, John Gasgoigne, Robert Whynot, Lloyd Russell and Rodney Hirtle. (The Bridgewater Bulletin, 24 Jan 1990 pg 20)
Randolph's brothers John Rhodenizer and William Rhodenizer and their cousin Wilfred James Stevens also served in the Navy.
