Gregory Bruce Wigle

RCN

Born: 23 Jun 1944          Died: 13 Apr 2024

WIGLE, Gregory Bruce - Greg was born in Windsor Ontario and grew up in the neighboring town of Amherstburg where he had many memorable adventures and made lifelong friends. In 1961 he joined the Canadian Navy and served for 3 years on the HMCS Terra Nova. Returning to Amherstburg he met Linda Kelly whom he married in 1966. In 1973 they both had a life altering encounter with God and became Christ followers. They moved to Calgary in 1974 for a fresh start and were very involved at Bethany Chapel and Southview Church for many years.

Greg’s working career took many turns. He worked at the General Motors Trim Plant in Windsor for seven years, then in Calgary as an electrician for 11 years, owned and operated a home renovation company for nine years, then worked with One to One Christian Fellowship as a spiritual mentor until he retired in 2005, but continued to the end of his life to meet with men for study and deep friendship. As a Lay Pastor he officiated at weddings and funerals and preached at a variety of churches and venues.

His many interests included riding motorcycles, customizing motorcycles, creating art in stained glass, card making, metal art and reading and writing poetry to name a few. He welcomed men from all walks of life to join The Holy Smoke Club. Camping, bicycle riding, skating, swimming and sharing his crafting talents were activities he enjoyed with his kids and grandkids.

As he passed into glory he leaves behind Linda (wife of 57 years), daughters Emily (Jeremy) Wight, Rachel (Defend Maphosa) Wigle, Hannah Heaton, and grandchildren Zachary & Isabelle Wight and Avery & Kelly Heaton; brother, Kent (Peggy) Wigle; and nieces, Becky Wigle, Amy Jones and Hilary Laur. He was predeceased by his parents, Cliff and Pearl Wigle; and his sister, Susan Slater.

He will be missed by many, but he would want you to remember he is now safe in the arms of Jesus.

A Celebration will be held Friday, May 10, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Southview Alliance Church (20200 Walden Blvd SE, Calgary, AB). In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Greg’s memory to either Rosedale Hospice or Hope Mission.

A special thanks for the compassionate care given to Greg by the staff and Doctors at Rosedale. (Choice Memorial Cremation & Funeral Services)
