GUEST, Victor Gordon - Peacefully, on Sunday March 2nd 2008 at Woodstock General Hospital surrounded by his family. Victor Gordon Guest of Woodstock in his 84th year. Beloved husband of Margaret for 59 years; father to Paul (Lori) of Barrie, Carol-Ann Ellis (Jim) of Kitchener and Ian (Brenda Beretta) of London. Proud grandfather to Helen, Heather, Hayley, Kevin and Caitlyn. Step-grandfather to Stephanie Circelli (David) and Michael Sillers: step great-grandfather to Venture, Camilla and Daphne Circelli and survived by his cousins Margaret and Ann and their families in England and Dawn and her family in Australia. Predeceased by sister Phyllis (1919), parents Horace (1964), Edith (1978) and brother Horace (2002). Born in Birkenhead, Cheshire, England June 12th 1924. Served in the Royal Navy during WW II in the Battle of the Atlantic, in the British Secret Service in North Africa, the Royal Canadian Navy on the HMCS Bonaventure as a signalman during the Cuban Missile Crisis and finally in the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve. He was a past manager of Shaw Cable Systems in Woodstock until his retirement in 1990. Victor was a longtime member of New St. Paul’s Anglican Church (Church of the Epiphany), a former President and current member of the Oxford County Naval Veterans Association and was the current President of the Woodingford Lodge Resident Council. A private family service will be held at the Church of the Epiphany, Woodstock on March 6th 2008. Friends are invited to join the family at the Navy Club 959 James St., Woodstock on Thursday March 6, 2008 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. for a time of remembrance and reflection of Victors life. Cremation has taken place. Interment in the Anglican Cemetery to be held at a later date. A special thanks to the palliative care unit at WGH, dialysis units at WGH and LHSC, the staff at Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock. Donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society or floral tributes and contributions may be sent to the Longworth Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock, 519-539-0004.
