In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
HILL, George Edward - 83 of Lower Sackville passed away June 24, 2023, at the Victoria General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Halifax, he was the son of Herbert and Emily (Taylor) Hill.
George spent a long career in the Canadian Navy as a Marine Engineer retiring at the rank of Chief Petty Office Second Class (CPO2). He served on various ships sailing around the world. After retiring from the Navy, he went to work in the dockyard for many years. He was an avid golfer, curler and loved woodworking. George loved cooking, baking, and sharing the fruits of his labour with family and friends around his table. When not in the kitchen you could find him out in his garden which he took great pride in. He is survived by his daughters Karen (Blair) Levert, of Cambridge, ON and Cheryl (Gavan) Durkin of Aurora, ON. Sisters: Mary Wilkie, Gertrude (Henry) Purdy, Diane Parsons and Betty Boulton (Barb Bergen). Brothers: Gordon (Marjorie), Leroy (Joyce) and Ernest (Gail). Grandchildren: Lisa (Luke) Marshe of Orleans ON, Kristen (Curtis) Harney of Cambridge ON, Brian (Katlynn) Levert of Elmvale ON, Ryan and Meghan Durkin of Aurora ON and seven Great Grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his Wife Joyce, Daughter Joan Nolan, Brothers Herbert and Harvey and Sister Donna.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held at the Atlantic Funeral Home (125 Sackville Dr, Lower Sackville) on Friday, June 30, 2023, at 2PM. Interment will take place at a later date.
The family would like to thank the palliative care team, VON, VAC and the many doctors and nurses who cared for George.
