Don eventually saw the light and Volunteered for Submarine Training. He served on both HMCS Grilse and HMCS Rainbow where he was the Chief Electrician. As an electrician he served 25 years in the Royal Canadian Navy. His last posting was to 201 CFTSD in Longpointe, Q.C. After retirement from the Navy in 1979 Don stayed in Montreal and worked with Vickers Shipyard for a few years followed by a short stint with Electronic Engineering in Victoria, B.C. He also worked for 8 years with Saint John Shipbuilding helping to build new frigates for the Navy and retired for good in 1991 at the age of 56. Over the years Don participated in a variety of sports - fastball, squash, golf, running and in later years, took his daily walks very seriously. Anchors Away Don.
