In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
MERRYWEATHER, Bruce - passed away at the Misericordia Hospital on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the age of 85. He was born in 1923 in Fallis, Alberta and spent many years in the west Wabamun Lake area, a place he treasured. Grandad will be lovingly remembered by his son, Frank and grandchildren, Emma and Daniel along with their mother Cherie. He will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Bruce was predeceased by his wife Marion in 1992 and his brother Coder Hugh Merryweather (lost when HMCS Louisburg was sunk) in 1943. In 1941, at age 18, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy and served on the HMCS Port Arthur from April 1944 to the end of the war. He had a distinguished career with Canada Customs spanning 35 years including four lovely years in Jasper in the 1950s. An avid curler, golfer and walker, Bruce participated in these activities well into his eighties. He loved the outdoors and animals. He was an active volunteer for the Cross Cancer Institute for many years. For the last four years, Bruce lived at Canterbury Manor and Canterbury Court. Funeral Services will be held at Foster and McGarvey Funeral Home, 10011 - 114 Street, Edmonton on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Bruce's honor may be made to the Cross Cancer Institute, 11560 University Avenue, Edmonton, AB, T6G 1Z2, (780) 432-8771 or to St. Aidan and Ste. Frank would like to send a grateful thank you to the nurses and doctors in the Misericordia Hospital, Unit Six East, for their compassion, help and friendship in Bruce's last months here on Earth.
