LANGFORD, Jack - It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of Jack Langford (formerly of Petersburg, ON) on February 9, 2023, at the age of 97.

 

Survived by beloved wife of 41 years, Marie. Predeceased by wife Mary and brother Joe (Dot). Jack was the loving father of Maureen, Gus - deceased (Judi), Pat (Judi), Joe (Cindy), Monica Ferguson and Andrea Fernandes (Tony). Proud grandfather of John, Mike, Kristen, Erin, Steph, Robin, Rebecca, Mary, Hannah, Georgia, Jacob and Dominic. Cherished great-grandfather of Violet, Syd, Roman, Millie, Aster, Ophelia, Michaela, Kimber, Colt, Emmilynn.

 

Jack was one of the few remaining WWII veterans. He served aboard the HMCS Thetford Mines Frigate in the North Atlantic. Although Jack never considered himself a hero for his time in the Navy, he will always be remembered as a hero by his family. He was a member of the New Hamburg Legion, Branch 532. Jack retired from Bell Canada in 1983 after 36 years.

 

An avid golfer, horseshoer, curler, skier, woodworker and "Jack" of all trades and always a great supporter of his grandchildren's activities. His love of the Toronto Blue Jays continued throughout his life. Jack loved books and his knowledge was endless. His story telling was riveting and will truly be missed.

 

Visitation will be held at Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Fredrick Street, Kitchener, on Sunday, February 19th from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Canadian Cancer Society or The Royal Canadian Legion Dominion Command Poppy Trust Fund. (The Waterloo Region Record 16 Feb 2023)
