James was given leave of absence October 29, 1940 from the New Brunswick Electric Company to join the navy and he enlisted in Saint John NB on November 14 1940. He was demobilized August 1, 1945 in Saint John, NB.
WILSON, James Arthur (Art) - The death of James Arthur Wilson, 70, of Penniac, occurred Saturday at Victoria Public Hospital. The Body is at Biship's Funeral Home where service will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. Rev H.M.D. Westin will officiate and interment will be in the United Church cemetery, Penniac. Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife, the former Effie Moore, two daughters, Mrs. John Darby (Marjorie), Espanola, Ont., and Mrs. William King (Joan), Fredericton; three brothers, Arnold T., Harold B. and Stanford C. Wilson, all of Saint John; two sisters, Rita M. Hart, Saint John, and Mrs. Howard Wilson (Edith), Lornevill; eight grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Born at Saint John, he was a son of the late Samuel G. and Alma M. (Bryant) Wilson. A retired engineer, he was a member of the Fredericton branch Royal Canadian Legion; an honorary life member of the Association of Professional Ball Players, and an ardent fisherman. He served with the Royal Canadian Navy for six years during the Second World War and received the British Empire Medal. He was employed by the New Brunswick Electric Power Commission as an engineer at the Newcastle Creek power house.

WILSON, James Arthur, Stoker Petty Officer, V2574, British Empire Medal (BEM), RCNVR - Awarded as per Canada Gazette 5 June 1943 and London Gazette of 2 June 1943.
"While serving in one of His Majesty's Canadian Corvettes in the North Atlantic, this Rating has rendered excellent service and at all times has displayed wholehearted devotion to duty."
