BLANCHARD, Joseph Homer Gerald Leopold, Sto 1c, A2426, RCNVR - MPK 05 Nov 1940, HMS JERVIS BAY - Son of Edmund and Amanda Blanchard of Dalhousie, New Brunswick. Husband of Mabel Blanchard, of Dalhousie.

 

Joseph Homer Gerald Blanchard was born at Lower Caraquet, New Brunswick. He was educated at Dalhousie High School, and later studied Wireless Telegraphy. He joined the senior service at Halifax on July 12, 1940, in the RCNR Stoker Blanchard was a member of the gallant crew of HMS JERVIS BAY, which was sunk in enemy action by overwhelmingly superior forces. He was one of twenty-one members of the RCN. serving aboard this armed merchant cruiser. His loss was reported on November 13, 1940, as "Missing, believed killed in action." He was married, September 27, 1932, and is survived by his widow and five children, who reside at Dalhousie, Restigouche County, New Brunswick.
