In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar

RENNIE, Clayton Atkinson - It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Clayton Atkinson Rennie of Surrey, B.C. on January 27, 2019, with his loved ones near, just shy of his 102nd birthday. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 69 years, Mayda Elizabeth Rennie (ne�e Broberg), his son Brian, his daughter Sharolyn, son-in-law Rick, and grandchildren Candice and Nathaniel, his son Warren, and his grandson Stuart. Clayton is survived by his daughter Patricia “Patti” Goodwin, grandchildren John, Brian, David and Shayna, his daughter-in-law Mary, grandchildren Jessica and Corinna, his great-grandchildren Dru and Chase; and his loving sister June Rennie and sister-in-law Vernice Stephenson, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Clayton was born at Frobisher, Saskatchewan on February 15, 1917. He served in the Canadian Navy and was assigned to HMCS Cougar based at Prince Rupert, B.C., from 1941 – 1945, he was a Signalman. He married Mayda Broberg in Spalding United Church on January 28, 1945. They subsequently moved to the West Coast, settling first in Victoria, B.C., where Warren and Brian were born. Two years later the family moved to the Little Mountain area in Vancouver, and then the Rennie’s moved to their long- term home on East 7th Avenue in Vancouver, where Sharolyn and Patti were born. Clayton became quite active in the Real Estate market and in the community of Mt. Pleasant. Clayton always kept busy with projects, creating, inventing, building, repairing, restoring, but he always found time for a nap or two! Possibly the secret to living to 100 and beyond! You could also find him sitting at a piano or an organ playing and singing some of his favourite songs.

Clayton will be remembered for his gentle and humble qualities, kind- hearted and “sweet” ways about him, endless strength and energy, as well as his amazing skills at fixing anything and his art of improvising! He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and a VIP Veteran.

Clayton’s Celebration of Life will be held at Victory Memorial Park 14831 28 Avenue, Surrey at 1:00 pm on March 9, 2019. Clayton will be deeply missed and loved forever. Keep calm and carry on… and be it ever so humble, there’s no place like home. (The Surry Now-Leader 27 Jan 2019)
