Joseph Edward Gallant

Died: 15 Oct 2022, Lake Loon, Nova Scotia

 

GALLANT, Joseph Edward - Age 86 of Lake Loon passed away October 15, 2022, at home. Born in Saint John, N.B., he attended St. Vincent’s Boys elementary and high school, and later St. Mary’s University. Joe served in the Royal Canadian Navy for 31 years, retiring in 1991 with the rank of Petty Office 1st Class. He was very active in community affairs having served on community councils and the Humber Park Homeowners Association. He was a member of the Cole Harbour Lions for ten years, having been named the best Rookie in 1984, and the best president in 1987 for the Atlantic provinces, and the state of Main. Most recently Joe was a volunteer with Canadian Blood Services. Joe trained under the tutorage of his long-time friend, Al Goodwin to be an auto mechanic, and after eight years and some consternation by Al which led to him having to have a few nips to calm his nerves. Joe was awarded a Junior Mechanics Certificate and was valedictorian in his class. He is survived by daughter, Wendy; son, Michael; grandson, Corie; great-grandson, Dominic. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday October 26, in Cole Harbour Funeral Home. Private family interment at a later date.
