TOWNSEND, Ralph Whitman - 85, 38 Nafthal Dr., Bridgewater, formerly of Lunenburg, died November 12, 1992, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Westhead, Queens County, he was a son of the late Ralph and Carrie Townsend. He began his career at sea at the age of 14 and later joined the Department of Fisheries, serving as a seaman on C.G.S. Arleux and C.G.S. Melville. In 1950, he became captain of Protection, Search and Rescue Vessell, C.G.S. Cygnus, retiring in 1970, after serving 43 years with Dept. of Fisheries. He served with the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War and was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 23, Lunenburg. He was a member of Unity Lodge No. 4, Lunenburg of the Masonic Order and Philae Temple Shrine. He was a founding member of Bluenose Senior Citizens Club, Lunenburg and member of May Chapter 38, Order of the Eastern Star, Bridgewater and Zion Lutheran Church, Lunenburg. He is survived by his wife, the former Joyce Heisler; daughter, Dianne (Mrs. Robert Cann), Vancouver; stepdaughter, Patricia (Mrs. George Martinez), North Carolina; three stepsons, Kenneth Heisler, Lower Sackville; Glenn Heisler, Bridgewater; Ronald Heisler, Elmsdale; brother, Ted, London, Ont.; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Hazel Myra; two sisters, Madeline, Connie; brother, Allison. The body is in Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg, visiting 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Sunday. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Mon- day in Zion Lutheran Church, Lunenburg, Rev. James Slack officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg. Immediate family flowers only. Donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church Building Fund, Nova Scotia Diabetes Association or any charity.
