Frederick Edwin Herbert (Fred) Johnson

Died: 20 Jul 2022, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

 

JOHNSON, Frederick Edwin Herbert (Fred) - of Dartmouth passed away on July 20, 2022 at Dartmouth General Hospital, one day before his 84th birthday. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, son of the late Mel (Milford) F. and Mabel L. (Rutledge) Johnson. He is survived by his wife Catherine (Rogers) Johnson, sons Melfred (Hidemi) and Kenneth Johnson, Dartmouth NS, granddaughters Chisa and Saki, and granddogs. He was predeceased by his brother Rev. Robert Johnson (Marybelle).

 

Also survived by niece Kathy (Wally) Peterson, ON; nephews Doug (Elaine) Johnson, SK, Tom (Monique) Johnson and David (Sandra) Johnson, MB; sisters-in-law Mary MacAskill and Annetta Cripps, NS, and predeceased by brother-in-law Joseph Rogers.

 

He served 30 years in the Canadian Armed Forces at CFB Esquimalt, Shearwater (Naval Air) and Toronto (Spar Aerospace) as well as several ships, including HMCS BONAVENTURE. Following his retirement, he was employed with I.M.P. Aerospace Ltd. and the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires.

 

Fred was a true gentleman, very generous, kind and was dearly loved by his family. He loved to curl, golf, swim (Shearwater 100-mile Swim Club – swam 400+ miles) and other sports and was an avid fan of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Toronto Blue Jays and Maple Leafs. He was also a member of CNAG Shearwater.

 

Funeral service is Friday, August 26, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., St. Thomas More Church, 15 Caledonia Rd., Dartmouth NS. Rev. T. (Toochukwu) officiating. Reception to follow in church hall.

 

Memorial donations may be made to the Shearwater Aviation Museum Foundation, the Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice.
