LSA Harold K. Boyd drowned after jumping overboard from HMCS MAHONE into the harbour at Halifax, NS. It was ruled suicide by the Board of Inquiry. LSA Boyd suffered quite a lot from a skin disease affecting his legs and feet. He had stated on several occasions that, due to his long service on the ship he desired very much to stick with the ship until the end. He knew that his ailment was certain cause for hospitalization if he reported to the medical authorities, so he never brought the matter to the medical authorities.
