William Arnold (Arnie) Roxton

RCNVR

Born: 06 Jun 1920, Regina, Saskatchewan

Died: 22 Apr 2022, Winnipeg, Manitoba

ROXTON, William Arnold (Arnie) - He always said "Everyone has their day." After a long and happy life - Friday, April 22, 2022 was "his day." Dad passed quietly, just as he had lived.

Arnie was born in Regina to Harry and Maggie Roxton. He was a smart young guy, skipping two grades in school. He loved sports, but skipping grades eventually worked against him, as he was too young for some high school sports teams. As soon as he could, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy, proudly serving on the WOLF, CARAQUET, QUATSINO and PRINCE DAVIE during the Second World War. He loved telling stories of his experiences at sea and how the Navy allowed him to see the world.

Post war, he returned home to Regina and began training as an electrician with Tibbits Electric. Arnie met Pat, they married in 1947 and enjoyed a loving union of 54 years, until her passing in 2002.

In 1960 he was hired by Interprovincial Pipeline (now Enbridge). His 25 year pipeline career took him to Glenboro, Regina and Edmonton.

He retired to Winnipeg in 1986, to be closer to his children. Arnie loved spending time with the family. The children always loved it when he would stand on his head and walk on his hands. They would scurry gleefully to pick up any coins that fell out of his pockets.

Dad loved all sports, whether playing or watching! He golfed and curled into his 90s. He belonged to a few bridge clubs, enjoyed games of cribbage or rummy and an occasional trip to a casino. Arnie was never known to turn down a glass of rum and coke!

Health and fitness were important to him. Staff at Deer Lodge Center were inspired by his daily morning ride on his stationary bike well into his 101st year!

Arnie was a great traveller and loved seeing the world. He and Pat enjoyed many trips to the Maritimes, the USA and parts of Europe. Cruises were enjoyed as the love of the sea never left him!

Predeceased by his parents, Harry and Maggie Roxton; his spouse Pat; infant daughter Gayle; granddaughter Brooke Forrest and sister Ada Bradshaw.

A kind and gentle soul has left us to miss him, daughter Lorene Bjornson (John); son Dale Roxton; grandson Tyler (Pam) and their boys, Bailey and Justin Bjornson and Brooke's children, Madeline and Sam Forrest and their dad Marshall Forrest.

Thanks to the caring staff on Tower 5 at Deer Lodge Center and to Dad's special friends, Merna and Ron Bowes.

A small service is being planned for family and close friends of Arnie at a later date.

Dad strongly believed in supporting charities. If you wish, please donate to a charity of your choice in his memory.

You were always there
when we needed you,
No task too great or small;
With a loving heart and a willing hand
For us, you did them all.
Thanks for the years you gave us
And for the wonderful times we shared.
We can only pray that when you left us
You knew how much we cared.
You're forever in our hearts.
