In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
GREGOR, James Hill - age 81, of Hinchey Avenue, New Waterford, Cape Breton, passed away on Monday, Nov. 14, 2005, at his residence. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late John C. and Bertha (Crockett) Gregor. Jim was a member of Calvin United Church and a graduate of Central School in New Waterford. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy as a signalman on the HMCS LEASIDE, a Corvette used during the Second World War. He belonged to the Cape Breton Naval Veterans. Following the war Jim worked for the Sears Company in New Waterford, Sydney and Brockville, Ont. He was an avid Expos baseball fan and sports enthusiast who also enjoyed hockey and music. Jim will be remembered as an outgoing man who loved people. He is survived by two sons, Jerome (Rosalie) Ridi, Sydney, and John (Bonnie) Ridi, Brockville, Ont. Also surviving are two sisters, Eileen Durdle, twin sister, Peggy Harrington, both of New Waterford, four grandchildren, Kelli, Amber of Brockville, Ont., Angela, Stacey of Ottawa, great-grandchild, Joshua of Brockville and several nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his wife, the former Germaine Brenna and one sister, Joan Sharpe. Visitation will take place Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Funeral service officiated by the Rev. Duncan Roach will be held Friday, 2 p.m. in Calvin United Church with interment in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, followed by a reception at the church. Jim will be taken to Calvin United Church Friday at noontime. As an expression of sympathy for Jim, donations in his memory may be made to Calvin United Church or a charity of one's choice.
