William (Bill) Boykowich

 

Able Seaman, Stoker Mechanic, 10056-E, RCN

 

Born: 24 Mar 1934, Cherhill, Alberta

 

Died: 07 Mar 2022, Ladysmith, British Columbia

 

BOYKOWICH, William (Bill) - of Chemainus BC, passed away at the Oyster Harbour Seniors Community on March 7, 2022 at the age of 88 years.

 

He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Daryl (Marilyn), Shelley (Guy) Lanki; grandchildren: Faryn (Kalan) Bazay, Dylan (Sarah) Boykowich, Matthew (Eryn) Boykowich, Jason (Kristina) Lanki; and great grandson: Ryder Boykowich. He will also be dearly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as close friends and beloved neighbours.

 

Bill was predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years, Frances Boykowich (nee Mryglad).

 

Bill was born in Cherhill, AB, leaving at the age of 16 to join the Navy where he was deployed to Korea for 2 years. After 5 years of service he moved to Ocean Falls, where he met and fell in love with Frances. They eventually settled in Chemainus where they resided for over 55 years.

 

In 2013 Bill was honoured with the Ambassador for Peace Medal; in which he took great pride.

 

He enjoyed his volunteer work at the Chemainus Museum as well as the time spent at the Senior’s Centre. His stories, smile and witty sense of humour will be dearly missed by all.

 

The family would also like to thank Oyster Harbour Seniors Community in Ladysmith for their kindness, support and exceptional care of our father/grandfather during his stay there.

 

A Service in Bill’s honour will be held at a later date. (Cowichan Valley Citizen 07 Mar 2022)
