In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
THOMPSON, Alfred Sydney (Syd) - At the age of 85 years, Syd passed away peacefully in Nanaimo Seniors Village. In his last few hours, he was surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Inez, son Gary (Gail) Thompson, daughter Gayle (Bruce) McLeod, grandchildren, Teresa (Matt) Coleman, Ryan (Heather) McLeod, Curtis Thompson, Karen Thompson, sister Betty Shinnan, sister in law Mildred (Dick) Anderson, numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
Syd was born in Regina, Sask., 3rd of 7 children. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy during WW II where he was a wireless operator on a corvette, the HMCS CAMROSE. After the war, he became a station agent for the CN Railway in Alberta and Saskatchewan. It was during this time that he met his lovely, devoted wife, Inez. They moved to Nanaimo in 1956, where Syd worked with Coca Cola until his retirement in 1981.
Syd loved camping, fishing and golfing. Syd and Inez spent many happy years camping with family and friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and will always he remembered for his wonderful smile, sparkling eyes and his kind and fun loving personality.
A Memorial Service will be held at First Memorial, 1720 Bowen Rd, on Thursday, December 4th at 11 a.m.
