WHITE, Karl Louis - Passed away December 11, 2021 after a valiant battle with cancer. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 67 years, Marie (Powell); son, Richard (Phyllis); daughters, Anne, Heather, Karen (Tim); chosen daughter, Debbie (Bill); 13 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Karl joined the RCN, Medical Branch in 1951 and served until retirement in 1983. He had service on HMCS BUCKINGHAM, HMCS KOOTENAY and was a member of the commissioning crew for HMCS BONAVENTURE in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Selected for Officer Training in Esquimalt, B.C., the family camped across Canada, three children and a cat. He completed his leadership/academic year and he received his Commission and the family retraced their route with a stop for three days at Expo 67. He went on to become the administrator of Roseway Manor in Shelburne, and he often referred to this as the most rewarding job of his long working career. His compassion for the residents was clearly evident as was his belief in the Eden alternative for those in long term care. He was an avid fly fisherman and enjoyed rabbit hunting with his beagles. A reader from a young age his other interests included curling, duplicate bridge, birdwatching and spending time at the cottage “The Crows Nest” where many happy memories were created for family and friends. He was also a 60 plus year member of Albert Lodge, Shelburne. Thanks to his Palliative Care team consisting of Dr. Krueger-Naug and nurse, Monica Flinn as well as the VON, Home Instead and the MAID team (Nikki), Dr. Ken Buchholz, Veterans Affairs and the Canadian Legion. Donations to Hope for Wildlife or charity of your choice. A gathering of remembrance for family and friends will be held in the summer. (Saltwire Network 18 Dec 2021)
