MATHER, David Cruickshank (Davy) - passed away peacefully on January 1, 2022, at the age of 95. He was born on December 12, 1926, to William Allan Mather and Isabel Maynard Cruickshank in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. He is survived and remembered fondly by his sons, Andrew Mather (wife Kathie), Chris Mather (wife Pat), and Peter Mather (wife Jocelyn), and his sister, Jane Mather (son Charles McCulloch). He was also a proud Poppa to James Mather (wife Laura) and Stephanie Quinn (husband Rory), and great-grandfather to Finley, Charlie, Hannah, Victoria, Noelle and Winnie. David was an active member of the Cub Scouts and Sea Cadets and entered the Royal Canadian Navy in 1945 aboard HMCS Crescent C-class destroyer. He studied at several institutions including Ravenscourt, Royal Roads Military College (1943-1945), and earned his Mechanical Engineering Degree at McGill University (1946-1950). After completing his education, he went on to work at Kimberly Clark in Wisconsin, was involved in newsprint sales in New York and worked at the Abitibi Paper Company in Toronto until he retired. He married his beloved wife, Joan Carruthers (predeceased 1990), daughter of Dorothy McDonald and James Carruthers, in May of 1951. They eventually settled, building their dream home and raising their three boys in Oakville, Ontario. David lived a full life, sailing at Lake of the Woods, Kenora, with friends and his sons, vacationing in Florida, where he was a member of The Country Club of Florida and The Ocean Club, and swimming with his grandchildren in his treasured pool. He loved classical music and was highly skilled in woodworking, horticulture, swimming, alpine skiing and sailing. Due to the current state of COVID-19, a large celebration of life will not be held. Should you wish, please feel free to donate to the Canadian Cancer Society in his memory. (The Globe and Mail 15 Jan 2022)
