COPLAND, John Alexander - RCNVR 1941-45 Retiree - Frost Steel & Wire (48 yrs.) Past Councillor, Stoney Creek (32 yrs.) A very kind, considerate, strong but gentle man, has left this world. John Copland passed away peacefully at Joseph Brant Hospital, Burlington, Ontario, on Thursday, August 15, 2019 in his 100th year. Husband of the late Mary Kodman (d. 1982). Loving partner of Joan Bannerman for 35 years. Most cherished father of Arlene Copland (St. Catharines) and step-father of Lorraine Bannerman (Robin McKee) and Gregg Bannerman (Shirl Ward). Predeceased by his father, A. Stuart Copland (d. 1950), and mother, Beatrice (nee Alexander) (d. 1987). Loving brother of Alice (d. 1991), Frances Batoff (Perth, ON), Audrey Whittle (Hamilton, ON), and Ila (d. 2014) and uncle to several nieces and nephews. Well respected, former Councillor of Stoney Creek, Retiree of Frost Steel & Wire (Stelco), and Canadian Navy WWII Veteran (including D Day). Special thanks to the Community Health Care Team, and the staff at Joseph Brant Hospital for their wonderful care. Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Ave. N., Stoney Creek, Ontario on Friday, August 23rd from 5-8 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, August 24th at 3 p.m. Interment at Mountview Gardens at a later date. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations to The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 933, Hamilton, Ontario L8N 3P9 and/or The Stoney Creek Community Food Bank, 605 Hamilton Regional Rd. 8, Hamilton, ON L8G 5G2 would be very much appreciated.
