CORMIER, Peter Alexander - It is with broken hearts that the family of Peter Alexander Cormier announce his passing on September 4th, 2021, at Douglas Memorial Hospital, Fort Erie, Ontario, in his 66th year of life. Peter was the cherished husband of Patricia Caswell Cormier for 35 years. He was the beloved father of Allison Jane Cormier and her partner Shaun Kendrick and Devon Alexandra Cormier and her partner John Ferris.

 

He is survived by his loving parents, Peter Robert and Elizabeth Cormier and by his devoted siblings, Debra Cormier MacDonald and her husband, David, David Cormier and his wife Trudy, and William Cormier and his wife Nona. Peter will also be remembered by his Caswell family, Susan Crowe, Jamie and DeeDee Caswell, and John Caswell. Nieces and nephews who lost their treasured uncle are: Robert MacDonald, Kate MacDonald, Simon Cormier, Bailey Cormier, Danielle and Dan Boehmert, Riley Cormier and his partner Julie, Amy Cormier, Laura Lynne and Graham Schaefer, James Pew, Michael Caswell and his partner Lisa.

 

He is also survived by eight great-nieces and nephews, his Aunt Mary, Aunt Joyce and many cousins. Peter was predeceased by his father-in-law Harold Caswell and mother-in-law Marjory Caswell who welcomed him into their family.

 

Peter was a resident of Niagara Falls, Ontario, having attended Valley Way, Maple Street Schools and NFCVI. After leaving secondary school he joined the Canadian Armed Forces where he trained at CFB Cornwallis, and proudly served on HMCS "Margaree". Peter enjoyed sharing many stories of his time at sea and of his adventures in Halifax, but his Niagara home called him back. He worked for General Motors of Canada for 31 years.

 

A life-long love of hockey was evidenced in his devotion to the Boston Bruins. He was also a "hockey dad", supporting his daughters by attending every hockey and ringette game they played in. Peter served on the executive of the Niagara Falls Ringette Association for many years. Memories created with Peter will be this family's treasured blessing. In the words of the Scottish poet, Robert Louis Stevenson, "Home is the sailor, home from the sea".

 

The family extends special thanks to Geneva from Para-Med and the entire team of doctors, nurses and health care workers responsible for Peter's care.

 

In accordance with Peter's wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements are entrusted with Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905-354-2133). A private family interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery. Memorial donations to McMaster Children's Hospital - Hematology and Oncology Unit would be welcomed if so desired.
