In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
Submarine Detector Clyde Russ was on watch in the ASDIC hut on HMCS Valleyfield when the torpedo struck. They were pinging for submarines when an unusual noise was detected. The A/S officer had ordered him to sweep the bearing but before he could do so the torpedo hit. The unusual noise was the sound of an acoustic torpedo.
Clyde Russ married in 1946. He had 2 daughters. He is buried in the Mountain View Cemetery, Vancouver, BC.
