CLARK, Richard W. - passed away, peacefully, at Parkwood Hospital in London, Ontario on Friday, November 14th, 2008 in his 88th year. Devoted husband & best friend for 37 years to Margaret. He will be sadly missed by his sister Frances Hamilton, brothers Michael & Peter Clark, daughters Christine Mahler & husband John, Lee Nitsch & husband Bob, Cindy Williams & husband David, Vikki Sharpe, and his son Bill Clark & wife Jean. Loving grandfather to Nicole Byng & husband John, Michael Mahler & wife Stephanie, Colin Williams, Joshua Williams and Hayley Sharpe. Great-grandfather to Alexandra and Jeffery Mahler. Beloved first cousin to Gordon & Betty Richards and their family. Cherished uncle to many nieces & nephews and their families. Richard Clark was a kind and true gentleman, a great husband and father that will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. He is predeceased by his mother Eva Richards & his father Richard Arden Clark, his brothers Frederick Arden, Ernest, Domville & John Clark, and sister Grace Sneddon. The family extends its gratitude to the staff at Parkwood Hospital and the Canadian Veterans Association. Memorial service will be held on Monday, November 17th, 2008 at 10:30 am in the chapel at Parkwood Veterans Hospital, presided over by the honourable Reverend Paul G. Knauer. In lieu of flowers we respectfully ask that donations be made to the Lambeth Legion.
Richard served in the RCNVR from 17 May 1941 to 01 Oct 1945
After the war, Richard was a businessman in London Ontario and very proud of his RCN service. All four of his brothers served in combat roles during the war. He did not speak a great deal about his war-time experiences, but when he did was always with humour...like the time he filled in for a radio-man on a different ship for a very long convoy trip above the Arctic Circle and every soul on board including the captain chopped ice to keep the thing afloat. He was also mentioned he was on shore-leave in Halifax when the V.E.-Day riot happened.
