MAYBURY, Kenneth Richard (Ken) - Age 85 of Dartmouth. It is with deep sadness the family announces Ken's passing on May 2, 2020, at home in Dartmouth. Ken was born in Montreal, Que., on June 18, 1934, where he resided until joining the Royal Canadian Navy, July 1952. He served on board many ships and several shore postings across Canada. His last sea posting was as coxswain on HMCS Preserver. He rose through the ranks to Chief Petty Officer 1st Class. He was invested as a member of the order of military merit in Ottawa, Ont., in 1976. He took his commission in 1981 and remained in the service until retirement in 1991. He was a son of the late John and Clara Maybury of Montreal. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Joyce (Townsend); daughter, Lynette Gadbois; son-in-law, Stephen; brother, Wayne Maybury (Ginnette); brother-in-law, Dennis Townsend (Laverne); sister-in-law, Beryl Townsend; nieces, Dawn Maybury, Julie Douville, Denise Pittman, Jeannette and Debra Townsend. He enjoyed reading, computer work, swimming, exercising and walks. Upon retiring he worked for Boeing Aircraft (Target Division), and 10 years as a Red Cross Volunteer in the Halifax and Dartmouth area. He was a member of St. Andrews Anglican Church, the Atlantic Chiefs and Petty Officers Association, the Admiral Desmond Piers Naval Association and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 160. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A service will be held at a future date through Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. (Halifax Chronicle-Herald 09 May 2020)
