Died: 14 Jan 1983, Victoria, British Columbia

 

MITCHELL, William D. - On June 14, 1983, beloved husband of Mollie Mitchell, of Victoria, in his 82nd year. Survived also by daughter, Mrs. Robert (Jo-Anne) Russell, Edmonton; and three grandchildren; brother, Harry, and sister, Helen Ferrie, both of Victoria. Mr. Mitchell was Chief Stoker PO of HMCS ATHABASKAN, surviving the sinking during the Second World War. Funeral service Saturday, June 18, at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel of First Memorial, Rev. C. Hamer officiating. Cremation. In Lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

 

Ships served in:

HMCS ATHABASKAN - CH Sto PO Mitchell survived the sinking of HMCS ATHABASKAN G07.  He was rescued / captured by German forces and became a POW for the remainder of WW2.
