MacDONALD, Charles Hibbert - Born 09 Jul 1894, Pictou Island, NS to Hector and Jessie Emery (McCallum) MacDonald. On 16 Jul 1918 he married Gladys Irene Thompson in Sydney, Cape Breton, NS. At the time of his marriage he was a Mate in the RNCVR. Gladys died on 21 Jan 1921. On 11 Oct 1922 Charles married to Zelma (Selma) Amelia Gates. They had 9 children. Zelma passed away 25 May 1995 in Dartmouth, NS.

 

* Note: according to the RCN Navy Lists, his attestation of birth and his death certificate his surname is MacDonald.  His marriage licence and the newspaper article below list his surname as McDonald.

 

MacDONALD, Charles Hibbard - Death Mourned - General Superintendent of the Dartmouth Ferry Commission, Captain Charles H. MacDonald died last evening at his home, 129 Pleasant Street, following a short illness. A veteran of two world wars and an esteemed citizen of Dartmouth, Captain MacDonald was in his 60th year. MacDONALD, Charles Hibbert - Funeral service for Charles H. MacDonald, general superintendent of the Dartmouth Ferry Service, who died early last evening, will be held Saturday, February 20, at 2.30 p.m., from Zink's Funeral Home, Rev.
