For Posterity's Sake A Royal Canadian Navy Historical Project
In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
LAIDLAW, Glenn Gordon - It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Glenn Gordon Laidlaw, age 77 on Monday July 15th, 2019 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Amherst. Born in Welland, Ontario, He was the eldest son of Gordon and Florence (Mundy) Laidlaw. Glenn joined the Navy at age 19 and moved to Halifax where he met his beloved wife of 53 years, Georgie (Clarke) Laidlaw. Georgie’s parents, John and Beryl (Jones) Clarke quickly became “Mom & Dad” to him. Together with his wife and children; Bill, Andrew, and Heather, Glenn moved to South Branch in 1972 where he lived until 2017. Glenn was a skilled woodworker and his father-in-law spent hours drawing and consulting with one-another on their creations. Glenn’s biggest project was planning and building his garage where he loved “puttering” with his antique tractors and woodworking projects. Glenn enjoyed time with friends and neighbors but his greatest joy was his granddaughters, Hannah and Maya. As a young child, Hannah spent hours shadowing Grandpa in his garage and riding with him on his lawn mower. In later years the roles were reversed and he became her biggest fan, cheering from the sidelines of countless activities. At Glenn’s wishes cremation has taken place and a small ceremony at sea will take place at a later date. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (902) 667-9906. Memorial contributions in Glenn’s memory can be made to a charity of your choice.
