Died: 06 Mar 2019, Ottawa, Ontario

FERGUSON, Robert (Bob) - Passed away peacefully at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on March 6, 2019 in his 82nd year. Bob was a loving father to Susan-Belle and Robert William (Colleen Wyman). He was predeceased by his beloved wife Betty. Born in Dawson Creek, British Columbia on April 5, 1936, Bob was the son of the late Isabel and William Ferguson and the oldest of five children. Bob had a long career in the Canadian military. After graduating from the Venture Training program, he piloted various aircraft including the Banshee, T-bird and Hercules, and served on the aircraft carrier HMCS Bonaventure. He was posted to several locations across Canada and finally landed in Ottawa. During his assignments he travelled around the world, including to the far north at CFS Alert. Upon retirement from the military, he worked in public service until full retirement in the early 1990s. He and Betty then spent several years living on the waterfront in Chase, British Columbia before returning to Ottawa. Bob was fond of his flying years and would give volunteer tours at the Canadian Aviation Museum where many of the aircraft he flew were on display. He maintained ties with his former colleagues through Venture Reunions and the Canadian Naval Air Group (CNAG). After the passing of his wife in 2006, Bob began taking long solo road trips to see the countryside. These included driving to Churchill Falls, Newfoundland to take a tour of the generating station, as well as driving through the desert to attend a gathering of Real Aviators Flew Stoofs (RAFS) in Reno, Nevada. Bob was a curler and a long-time member of the RA Centre. For many years he took brisk walks twice daily and will be missed by the neighbourhood dogs that he regularly greeted with enthusiasm. Bob was an avid reader and always had a book on the go. He also had a great appreciation for nature and gardening, but mostly he loved animals, in particular cats. He leaves behind his two beloved Tonkinese, Blue and Jazz. Friends are invited to visit the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue (at Richmond Road), Ottawa on Sunday, March 10, 2019 from 2 - 4p.m. If you wish to make a donation in memory of Bob, please consider the Ottawa Humane Society.
