John Martin Nickels

Born: 05 Jun 1921, Regina, Saskatchewan

 

Died: 11 May 2008, Victoria, British Columbia

 

NICKELS, John Martin - Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, June 5, 1921, died peacefully May 11, 2008 after a brief illness, just short of his 87th birthday. Predeceased by his grandson, Jamie, brother Ralph and his first wife, Kathleen. Survived by his loving wife, Doris, his daughters, Bev Sendall, Pat (Terry) Cross, three grandchildren, Launna, Deena and Scott and seven great grandchildren. Also survived by his twin brother, Marty (Grace), sister Violet and brother Leonard (Mary), as well as many nieces and nephews. He was a Navy veteran of WW2, serving six years convoy duty on the North Atlantic. He was employed by Pacific Stage Lines for 26 years. Memorial service at Shannon Oaks, 2000 Goldsmith St. (near Fort and Foul Bay Road) 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 15. Ships served in:  (note:  John Nickels and his twin brother Martin both served in the RCNVR during WW2.  It is not known if they served in these 4 ships together or at different times, or if one served in two and the other brother served in the other two.)
