In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
Tom Hicking joined the RCN in 1940 at the age of 17 - having lied about his age. He served mainly on Strathadam until 1945. After the war, he returned to his job at CN Railway, as a Claims Adjustor and worked there until her retied at age 58. Tom took a creative writing course and wrote about some of his adventures in the Navy. One story he recounted involved a submarine that hadn't identified itself and he and some other crew had jumped on it. They were about to throw a grenade inside when the ship identified itself as being British. Tom passed away in 2008.
Tom served in HMCS Strathadam during WW2. Based on his photos it is likely that he also served in a Fairmile, but it is not known which one.
