(Montreal Gazette 16 Mar 2005)

Jim only spoke a little of his time in the navy. He told us of a collision with a merchant ship that almost sunk the Mahone and that helped to weld holes in the hull shut, details were very vague. Apparently a friend of his died during the incident. He also spoke of going to Bermuda and chasing subs in the Gulf of the St Lawrence, and on being "Captain" for a day as he was the youngest on board.  He also mentioned that a Free French cruiser took a shot or two at the Mahone in a case of mistaken identity. And there was a collision with a whale that damaged the ship.

Ships served in:

HMCS MONTREAL - Enlisted in the RCNVR on 11 Aug 1943

HMCS MAHONE - Served in Mahone 1943-1945
