CRABBE, Thomas Gordon LS, N53650, RCN, died - 23 Oct 1969, HMCS KOOTENAY - Leading Seaman Crabbe was one of nine sailors who died as a result of a gearbox explosion and fire aboard HMCS Kootenay. He was the son of Jean (nee Milne) and Phillip Fawcett Crabbe of Neepawa, MB. Husband of Kathryn Suzanne (nee Fowler) and father of Brian and Bradley Crabbe, Dartmouth, N.S.  He enlisted in the RCN in Winnipeg on 24 Jan 1962. 

 

LS Crabbe was buried at sea.

Commemorative Name Certificate

 

Crabbe Island, Manitoba was named after Leading Seaman Crabbe on 10 Jul 2018.  Crabbe Island is located in Goldsand Lake at 57° 06’ 19” latitude and 101° 11’ 31” longitude approximately 30km north of north of Lynn Lake.
