S.S. SILVER STAR PARK
Defensively Equipped Merchant Ship (D.E.M.S.)
Albert Park was a Defensively Equipped Merchant Ship (DEMS). Though manned by a civilian crew, she had RCN sailors on board to man and operate the gun that was fitted to her for protection and convoy defence.
On 23 Dec 1944 the Silver Star Park collided with the US ship Mobile Point at 44.43N 124.02W.
On 12 Apr 1945 the Silver Star Park (Park Steamship Company) damaged in collision with SS Mangore and caught fire off New Bedford, MA, 15 merchant sailors & 1 DEMS Gunner killed, 29 survivors. Ship was later repaired & sold to the Brazilian Navy as the supply ship Santa Cecilia.
On 09 Mar 1962 she was reported to have gone aground at Manuel Luiz Reef, on the coast of Brazil and was a total loss.
