HSL 208
High Speed Launch
HSL 208 was one of 6 high speed launches transferred from the RCAF to the RCN in 1951. When the RCN took over the HSLs, they became responsible for search/rescue duty, patrolling at the Cow Bay and Chezzetcook air firing ranges, and the local harbour ferry service at Eastern Passage. During the open navigation season one of the HSL’s would also be required for duty at the Chatham air firing range. These craft operated out of HMCS SHEARWATER until 1958 when they were turned over to Crown Assests for disposal. Two of the navy's Bird Class Patrol Boats, CORMORANT and MALLARD were allocation as tenders to SHEARWATER as their replacements.
