Acadian was the 2nd RCMP vessel to bear this name.  She served as an RCMP vessel from 1959 to 1976, when she was transferred to the Canadian Navy and served as a tender to HMCS Cabot, St. John's, Newfoundland, and later at HMCS Donnacona, Montreal, Quebec.  She was paid off in 1996.
