BAMSEY, Arthur David - September 5, 1922 Viking Alberta – January 31, 2015 Leduc, Alberta. A Limb has fallen from our Family Tree. It is with great sadness that the family of Arthur Bamsey announces his peaceful passing after a hard-fought battle with infection. Art was a dear husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and a retired Captain of the City of Edmonton Firefighters. Art was predeceased by his beloved wife of nearly 69 years, Joyce, in 2013, his parents, infant daughter, Gloria (1954), and son, Donald (1998), as well as his brother Walter and sisters Alice, Esther, Gertie and Dora. Arthur is survived by three sons: Alan (Carolyn), Colin (Jena), Ian (Catherine); and one daughter, Elaine Merriman (Terry), as well as daughter-in-law, Kathy Bamsey (Garry Besselink); eleven grandchildren: Tara Proctor (Kevin), Andrea Rice (Russell), David Merriman (Amanda), Lianne Insinger (David), Sara Wengryn (Mike), Matthew Bamsey, Melissa Burge (Dennis), Trevor Bamsey (Lea), Laura Everitt (Justin), Kevin Bamsey (Becky), and Samantha Bamsey (Ben); and eight great-grandchildren: Anika, Teagan, Ailee, Katie, Bryson, Zachary, Aidan, and Kinley. He has left one sister, Ina Bamsey of Vancouver, and several nieces and nephews. He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed. Dad joined the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII and sailed the Atlantic on convoy ships as well as engaging in battle in the North Sea. He met Joyce in England and brought his war bride home. They enjoyed life, with summers at Pigeon Lake in the cabin, bowling, curling and visiting with friends, tending the garden on the acreage, spending winters golfing in Arizona, also traveling to many parts of North America, to England and into Europe. Dad was a builder and handyman, having built at least four of his own houses and the lake cabin, and taking on jobs for others when the need arose. He was a bit of a perfectionist, with a motto “If a thing is worth doing, it's worth doing right”. He always did. The family would like to thank the staff at Place Beauséjour in Beaumont, and at Leduc Hospital for their kindness, care, and compassion. Cremation has taken place and a memorial gathering and celebration of Art's life will be arranged later. In lieu of tributes, donations may be made to The Firefighter's Burn Treatment Society, 7024-101 Ave Edmonton, Alberta T6A 0H7. (The Leduc Rep 13 Feb 2015)
