In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
HYNES, Donald Stanley - originally of St. John's, Newfoundland, passed away at the age of 83 on June 4, 2026. After undergoing chemotherapy for non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2016, he was given 2 years to live and survived another 10.
Donald joined the cadets as a boy and transitioned into a successful career as a weapons technician in the Royal Canadian Navy. He spent 31 years in the Navy, achieving a rank of P.O. Second Class, while traveling the world. When he retired from the Navy, he started his second career as a Commissionaire, spending an additional 34 years in uniform.
He is survived by his loving wife Christine Hynes and stepson Dean Richardson. Also survived by his daughters, Dawn Michelle, and Tracy Hynes; his son Donald William Hynes; niece and nephew Tara and Stephen Fitzgerald; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents William Isaac and Jennie Hynes, sister Helen Fitzgerald, his first wife Heather Maher and second wife Ruth Bungay.
Don enjoyed taking day trips around Nova Scotia and socializing with fellow veterans at the Royal Canadian Naval Association Peregrine Branch. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family interment will occur.
