Died: 26 May 2026, Springhill, Nova Scotia, Canada

 

MERTON, Lewis R. - Age 67, of Parrsboro passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at Springhill. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Michael and Maryann (Kay) Lewis. Merton attended Parrsboro schools and later joined the Royal Canadian Navy. Following his service, he worked in Parrsboro for many years with Rod Morris, Harold Durant, and Parrsboro Metal Fabricators. He later moved to St. Stephen, where he became a valued member of the St. Stephen Fire Department and worked as a tow truck operator with Randy’s Towing. Upon his retirement, Merton returned closer to home, settling in Springhill to be near his family. He is survived by a daughter, Cindy Osborne, Springhill; a son, Charles (Nikki), Parrsboro; grandchildren, Chloe Riemersma, Zoe Riemersma, Bryce Osborne, Anaken Crowley, Bentlea Crowley, Benjamin Lewis and William Lewis; Mikaila Daigle; great-grandchildren, Noah and Nathan; a sister, Rebecca Ward (Rusty), Alabama; Mary Lewis, Pugwash; a brother, Paul, Parrsboro; numerous nieces and nephews. As well, his wife, Charlotte Lewis of Southampton, with whom he had recently reconnected.

 

A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Monday, June 1, 2026 at Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro, David Forbes officiating. Burial to follow in St. George’s Anglican Cemetery, Parrsboro.
