Larry Emerson Pearce

RCN

Born: 22 Dec 1942

Died: 18 Jul 2025, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

PEARCE, Larry Emerson - Tragically, at Hamilton General Hospital on Friday, July 18, 2025 at the age of 82, Larry passed away.

Larry was a loving father to two daughters, Susan (Dan) and Leanne (Joe). Devoted Grandpa of Alex (Ben), Emily (Erik), Madison, Zoe and Pearce. Great-Grandpa of Isla and Joey. Brother of Colleen and the late Bob. Mentor and uncle to Mark (Karen), Denise (Nick) and many nieces and nephews. Lifelong friend of Shirley. Companion of Nancy. Predeceased by his parents, James Emerson and Alice (nee Buck) Pearce, and his brother, Robert (Margaret) Pearce.

Larry served in the Royal Canadian Navy from September 1962 - September 1965 as an Able Seaman with an honourable discharge. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #24 for 50 years, rarely missing pasta dinner or a fish fry. Larry was a long-time brother of Masonic Temple Lodge No. 296 initiated April 18, 1973.

After serving in the Navy and living in Halifax, Nova Scotia (Shearwater), Larry returned to St. Catharines to work in the family business of painting but also started working at GM. He found that wasn't his calling, so he walked into a firehall and said "I want to be a fireman". He proudly served his community of St. Catharines (Local 485) as a firefighter from 1967-1999. While with the fire department he served as treasurer with the international association for many years. He was instrumental in making differences for his brother firefighters at the time with policies still in place today.

After "retirement", not good at sitting still, he had various jobs driving trucks for numerous greenhouses, locally and long hauls into the US. Once he understood he had earned peace and sitting still, Larry was most likely to be found sitting by a lake.

Although he did continue his commitment to volunteering by being a "senior consultant" to many if they needed rides or help in any way, because he always knew a guy, if he couldn't do it himself.

Larry leaves behind a large family and brotherhood that is unimaginable to count or name. The world lost a star and became a bit dimmer.

The family would like to thank the staff of the ICU of Hamilton General Hospital for their support. The family would also like to show its gratitude for the tireless work of the NRP and various police services for their efforts.

A funeral service for Larry will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at Christ Lutheran Church, 140 Russell Avenue. St. Catharines. There will be a private family graveside service at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Hospice Niagara or the Humane Society of Greater Niagara would be greatly appreciated. (NOTL Local 01 Aug 2025)
