BASSETT, LaVern, Leo - Feb. 22, 1924-Aug. 18, 2003 Gone to be with God and beloved wife Eleanor (July 25, 2003). Dear father of Gail Marie (Bassett) Marks. Proud grandfather of Isaac Adam LaVern Marks, Rachel Ellen Pesia Parks, Aaron Mackenzie Solomon Marks. Dear brother of Norman Bassett of MI., Joan and husband Armand Lauzon, and Ruth McCreedie of B.C. Survived by 10 nieces and nephews. Will be missed by special friends Pat and Elliott Arquette and their daughter Adriana and son Adam Arquette. Known as Grandpa, Papa, Uncle and Friend to many who loved him. LaVern retired as Fire Captain Badge #62 from the Windsor Fire Department. He was also a decorated WWII Navy Veteran. LaVern was a life member of the Harmony Lodge #579 and the Masonic Lodge. Friends will be received at the Morris Sutton Funeral & Cremation Centre, 68 Giles Blvd. E. on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with Parish Prayers at 7 p.m. Funeral Service from the Chapel on Friday, August 22, at 1 p.m. Rev. Dana Dean officiating. Cremation to follow with interment at a later date. In kindness, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. A tree will be planted in memory of LaVern Bassett in the Morris Sutton Heritage Forest. A dedication service will be held September 28, 2003. All are welcome. (The Windsor Star 24 Apr 2012)
