In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
RICHIE, Eric Whitfield - 90, passed away February 21, 2026, at the QEII Halifax Infirmary. Born August 11, 1935, in Ottawa, Ontario, he was the only son of the late Thomas and Mable (Locke) Ritchie. At the end of the Second World War his family moved to Dartmouth where he attended Halifax County Vocational School taking the Electrical Course. In 1954 he joined the Royal Canadian Navy retiring after a 30-year career attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer, First Class. In 1957 he met the love of his life, Doreen (Edmonds) and settled in Dartmouth where they raised their two children, Dale (Alvina) and Karen Clarke (Late Randall). In his early years he was very active in sports including Softball, Hockey and bowling which he also enjoyed into his later years. Cremation has taken place. In keeping with and respecting Eric’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. A gathering at his home for family and friends will be held at a later date to celebrate and remember his life.
