In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
ALLEN, Robert William (Bob) - age 87, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with his loving wife, Judith by his side.
Born in Montreal, he was the son of the late Robert and Molly (McSpurren) Allen.
Bob was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Navy, serving into his 21st year. After leaving the Navy, he joined CIBC where he worked another 21 years in both Halifax and Toronto until his retirement in January 2000.
After his family, Bob loved sports and cards, especially the Blue Jays and Pittsburgh Penguins.
While living in Oshawa he was, for many years, a regular at one branch or another of OSCC for afternoon cards or darts and Tuesday night poker at the Waltzing Weasel.
A serious fall three months after moving to Sydney in December 2019 that left Bob in near constant pain and Covid-19 restrictions did not stop him from getting out and enjoying life when he could. With his wife and trusty Travel Buggy, he enjoyed the food and many of the sights and sounds of Cape Breton, as well as travelling by train, tour bus, cruise ship and plane. A fall at the end of a wonderful trip to Niagara Falls in June along with a diagnosis of aggressive lung cancer and radiation a few months earlier was too much for even Bob’s strong heart. His 11-year-old grandson, Connor Robert, wanted people to know, “through his journeys in the hospital he maintained a positive outlook “.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of over 45 years, Judith (Cameron); son, Robert and his wife, Margaret, ON; and daughter, Melissa Aprile and her husband, Nick, ON, as well his much loved grandchildren, Hannah, Nicholas, Caleigh, Connor, and Matthew.
In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by his sister, Margo Elson and sister-in-law, Esta MacIntyre.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.(Sydney Memorial Chapel)
