CORMIER, Roy Edward - The family of Roy Edward Cormier is saddened to announce his peaceful passing with his daughter by his side.

Born in Springhill on October 2, 1931, Roy lived a long and meaningful life defined by courage, devotion, and a quiet strength that touched everyone who knew him.

Roy was the beloved son of the late William and Evelyn Cormier. He was predeceased by his cherished sisters Joan Brine and Patsy Marks; son-in-law Fred MacIntosh; and grandchild Aaron MacIntosh.

As a young man growing up around the coal mines, Roy quickly realized that working underground was not the life he wanted. At 18 years old, he took a brave leap and joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1949. Though Roy rarely feared anything, he shared that the only time he felt afraid was during his service in the Korean War from 1953 to 1954. He served aboard a ship battling immense 30-to-40-foot waves. Even in those moments, he fulfilled his duty with strength and resolve.

After his naval service, he transferred to the Royal Canadian Air Force – a decision made because he wanted to be closer to the love of his life, Grace, the woman he adored. Their bond was deep and unwavering until her passing in 2003, a loss he carried with him for the rest of his days.

Roy was a man of incredible discipline. Right up until his passing, he maintained a routine that involved working out for 2 and a half hours a day. A testament to his willpower and dedication to have a strong body and mind. He enjoyed playing cribbage, colouring, curling, and was a huge Blue Jays fan. Above all else, his greatest pride was his family.

He is survived by his beloved daughter Debbie MacIntosh; grandchildren Gordon (Gloria), Gerry (Amanda); great-grandchildren Zachary, Evan, Skye, Lou, Samantha, and Dylan; and great-great-grandchildren Parker and Esmae; and many nieces and nephews.

Roy will be remembered for his service, his stories, his humour, his stubbornness, and his devotion to the people he loved. His presence will be deeply missed.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the staff of Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital, as well as Bonnie and Betty - his weekend ladies, and to Robin, a special friend to Debbie and Roy. The memories he leaves behind will be treasured by all who knew him.

Cremation has taken place. No visitation as per request. Burial will take place at a later date at Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.

May he rest peacefully, reunited at last with his beloved Grace.
