PARKE, Donald Arthur - 85, formerly of Bridgewater, passed away peacefully in the Veteran's Unit of the Fisherman's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Centre, he was a son of the late James and Ruth (Demone) Parke. Donald served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War and was very proud of his war time service. He was a carpenter by trade and was employed by the Nova Scotia Government as well as private contractors. He was a past member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Scotia Branch, Halifax. Donald was very family oriented and loved to spend time with his grandsons. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by daughter, Debbie Phillips, Bridgewater; grandsons, Robert, Ryan and Cory, all of Bridgewater; nephews, Sherman Parke, First South and Gary Greenough, Dartmouth. Donald was predeceased by his wife, Emily Marie (Dowding); brother, James; sisters, Audrey, Isabel, as well as a sister in infancy; son-in-law, Donald Phillips. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. 3, Lunenburg, where a memorial service to celebrate Donald's life will be held on Friday at 11 a.m., Father Robert Coote officiating. Interment will be in Sunny Valley Cemetery, Centre. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Veteran's Unit of the Fisherman's Memorial Hospital, or a charity of choice.
