In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
DOYLE, Theodore Joseph - It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Theodore Doyle (TJ) passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre, Toronto, on Monday, October 13, 2025, in his 101st year. Beloved husband of the late Betty Doyle, loving father of Patricia Ann Doyle (Darrell Suderman), Terrence Micheal Doyle and Kevin Joseph Doyle (deceased), devoted Grandfather of Liam Anthony Doyle, he was predeceased by his siblings; Bill Doyle, John Doyle, Shelia Jewson (Doyle) and Kevin Doyle. TJ was born and raised in Belleville, and as a young man of 18, joined the Navy in 1943. He served in WW II on the destroyer HMCS Iroquois as a radar operator and was discharged in 1945 after the war ended. Upon returning to Canada, TJ embarked on a Civil Engineering Degree at Queens University and then launched into a construction career in Toronto at Foundation Company where he met and married his vivacious wife Betty in 1952. They soon started a family and welcomed sons Terrence, Kevin and a few years later daughter Patricia. TJ and Betty were married for 65 wonderful years. As a family man with an extensive career in construction, his experiences took everyone along for the ride from Sudbury, to Kirkland Lake and back to Toronto. Throughout his career, TJ shared his passion for international travel with his wife Betty. Just before retirement, TJ set afloat on his new passion for sailing and in 1984 purchased a 30-foot sailboat, "Comus". As a senior member of Queen City Yacht Club for over 30 years, TJ sailed for thousands of hours on Lake Ontario as well as chartering in the Caribbean, Adriatic and the far east. At the age of 93, he continued to solo his boat for his annual trip down the lake to Kingston and back and was finally convinced at the age of 96, albeit reluctantly, to end his sailing endeavours. He took great pleasure in the friendships, festivities and solitude of sailing life. As a husband, father, grandfather and friend, TJ will forever live in the hearts of many. The family will receive friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2–6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21st. A funeral will be held in the chapel on Wednesday, October 22nd at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. (The Toronto Star 17 Oct 2025)
