In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
BURTON, Norman Rex - It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Norman Rex Burton "Rex" on June 16th, 2025, after his battle with cancer.
Born in Pacquet, Newfoundland to Ralph Burton and Clarice Burton, Rex would spend his days playing hockey, fishing and spending time with his Uncle Clayton. Rex would eventually join the Royal Canadian Navy and spend 32 years dutifully serving his country as a Naval Weapons Technician. Rex would go on to see the world travelling to many different ports across Europe, Africa and North America.
Rex would spend his free time driving around the trails of Nova Scotia on his side by side taking in the beautiful sights of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Rex was also quite the handyman having built many decks and gazebos for his friends. He also developed a passion for woodworking, creating beautiful hand-crafted cutting boards, coasters and other similar items.
Rex's favourite spot was his second home at the trailer down at Ponhook lodge. You could find Rex blasting music at the trailer, smoking various meats for supper or chatting with family and friends. Most likely, you would find Rex and the family driving around Ponhook Lake on the Pontoon boat. There is nothing Rex liked more than a good sunset cruise with his family, friends and loyal dogs. Rex was a kind soul who was always willing to lend a hand and help out his family and friends. He was a determined individual who, when he set his mind on something, good luck telling him otherwise. Rex was compassionate and a loving Father to his two kids, his pets and his wonderful wife. He would always ensure that his kids knew how proud he was of them. Rex was a loyal and dedicated husband who loved to spoil his wife. Rex was someone who would have you rolling on the floor laughing with his stories.
Rex is survived by his wife, Nicole (Cullihall) Burton; his son, Patrick Burton; his daughter, Victoria Burton; his siblings, (and their partners) Lori (Bob) Spicer, Vicky (Dennis) Norman, Valerie Greenham (Mike Breen), Lorne (Roxanne) Burton; his mother in law ,011ie Cullihall, and his sibling in law, Danny (Rowena) Cullihall; his nieces/ nephews, Christopher, Renee, Rocky, Amy, Taylor, Alicia, Nicolas, Jamie, Jessica, Amy, and Chelsea; his great nieces and nephews, with Soren, his great niece, holding a special place in his heart, and his loyal pets, Willow and Tinker.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at both the Dartmouth General Hospital and the staff at the QE2 for their care and compassion while Rex was in the hospital. The family would also like to thank all of those who offered support to Rex and his family, would spend hours with him at the hospital and those who tried to make Rex's days special. See you later Dad, I am sure Uncle Clayton, and Nan and Pop are there to greet you on the other side. Although, I'm sure you'll take a detour over the rainbow bridge to see Ginger and RooRoo.
A celebration of life to follow in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SPCA or Hope for Wildlife. (Arbor Memorial)
