RANDELL, Dion Sandy Vagn - 54, Head of Chezzetcook. It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and son, Dion Randell on Monday, September 22, 2025, one week shy of his 55th birthday, at Hospice Halifax, surrounded by his loving family and friends. A son of Doris and Clem Randell, Dion was raised in Englee, Newfoundland. His home held a special place in his heart.

Dion served his country in the Royal Canadian Navy for 29 years, working his way to Chief Petty Officer, First Class. Throughout his dedicated career, he was deployed all over the world and met many colleagues, many of whom have become his closest friends. Dion was a dedicated Mason. He was a proud member of Ashlar Lodge No. 107, District- Halifax 2 and Ad Astra Lodge No. 130. Dion was a true family man and his family meant everything to him. He loved spending time with his grandkids, all who were the apple of his eye. He will be remembered for having the best sense of humour. Dion naturally possessed the ability to make anyone laugh, opening his heart to all who knew him, making each person in his life feel loved and important. His home was always filled with family and friends. Dion was insightful, intelligent, and was known for always lending a helping hand, whether it was fixing cars or building cabins. Four-wheeling, boating, fishing, skidooing and moose hunting in Newfoundland were among his most favorite things to do. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his love, his loyalty and his kindness.

Dion is survived by his one true love, Joanne. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Matthew, Jenna (Tristan), Amy, Michael, and Mark- each of whom he was immensely proud of. He is also survived by his beloved dogs, Deogie, Bella and Bucket. Known as Poppy, he is survived by his grandchildren, Audrey, Amelia, Odin, Sadie, and Brooklyn. He will be dearly missed by his parents, Clem and Doris, his sister, Cherry-Ann (Will), his brother, Dale (Grace), nieces, Shaelynn (Rob), Isabella, Victoria, and Katie-Lynn, and nephew, William. He is survived by his in-laws, Wally and Audrey, to whom he was like a son, and his sister-in-law, Stephanie (Eric). Dion lives on in the hearts of his former colleagues, and many friends, especially those closest to him, Mike, Kim, Ed, Vinny, Darcy, Peter, Nick and DeeDee.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Dion’s life will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at the Chezzetcook Fire Hall, 5543 Highway 7, Head of Chezzetcook, NS, beginning at 5pm. All are welcome to come and share memories of Dion with his family. A private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, Dion wished that donations be made in his memory to Hospice Halifax, 618 Francklyn Street, Halifax, NS B3H3B4. (J. Albert Walker Funeral Home)
