In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
ANDREWS, Montague Edmund (Monty) 84 of Lockeport passed away peacefully at the Dartmouth General Hospital September 20, 2025. He has gone home to be with the love of his life, his beloved wife Linda (2020). Born in Bristol, England during World War 2 he was the son of Arthur and Irene Andrews (James).
Monty spent his early childhood in Bristol, England where he grew up around the sound of music; his mother was an avid pianist who taught him to sing and fostered what would become a lifelong passion. In the early 1950’s, the family departed England and immigrated by sea to Canada. Life in Ontario began in the outskirts of Brampton, where he spent time working on a local farm. Driven by his desire to serve his community, he went on to join the Armed Forces Naval Branch. While stationed in Halifax he met Linda and within months they would marry and start a new life together in Norval, Ontario.
Not long after this, Monty began working at American Motors, also known as Chrysler, and would work for them until he retired, for a total of thirty dedicated years. Before retiring, he lived a full and rich life in Orangeville with Linda. Monty and Linda’s family would grow with the birth of Cheryl, and later Michael to make their family complete. Still holding the desire to serve his community, Monty also became an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Masonic Lodge. Friends and music were some of the things that made life rich for Monty. In Orangeville, he fostered many friendships, some of which are still clung to by other generations of the family, and he was known fondly for his rendition of Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer, sung loudly at the Christmas parties. Although he loved life in Orangeville, he always dreamt of moving to Lockeport… or as he affectionately called it; “God’s country”. He knew once there, life would be good.
In Lockeport, he continued his work with the Royal Canadian Legion and the Masonic Lodge. He also became a member of the Lion’s club and was well known and loved in the community for his many contributions. Singing and entertaining was in Monty’s veins, so he volunteered for many years with the Surf Lodge Birthday Club, he surely brightened many days with his charisma and beautiful voice. He was always available for any jam session that his friends might offer.
In Lockeport, on an old farmstead, he nurtured his passion for gardening with a generous vegetable garden that he tended to with love. He also grew fruit; such as berries, plums and grapes, which would become wine, something that he loved to share with his friends and family. He was also an avid reader, even in his later years and loved to fish. His granddaughters hold many memories of joining him on his red and white Mini Cape Islander, bouncing across the surf, while pointing out porpoises and seals around his beloved Lockeport.
Forever loved and remembered by daughter Cheryl (Ryan), son Michael (Jamie) and grand daughters Sarah (Ryan) and Laura. Predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Irene and his brothers Arthur and Michael. Monty was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Special thanks to the Cole Harbour Fire Dept., Emergency Health Services and the Dartmouth General Emergency Department for all their kindness and compassion.
